Grandparents’ Rights

Unfortunately, many grandparents are denied access to their grandchildren as a result of separation and divorce.

Grandparents do not have automatic rights to contact with their grandchildren but the good news is that the courts are willing to recognise the importance of the role of grandparents in the lives of their grandchildren. It is rare for the courts to deny access to grandparents unless the safety and welfare of the child is at risk.

Depending upon the grandparents’ connection with the child, it is possible for them to apply for permission to make applications for Contact or Residence Orders.
